Couples Therapy

Relationships are one of the most rewarding parts of life. They are also challenging, complicated and need watering in order to grow. Working on a relationship in therapy is an act of strength and courage.

Helping couples rekindle joy, safety and intimacy in their relationships is one of my passions. I work with heterosexual and same-sex couples on a wide variety of topics including communication, sex and intimacy, life transitions, infidelity, consensual non-monogamy, and other relationship issues. I also work with people in family and other non-romantic relationships looking to work through challenges and strengthen their connection.

My approach to working with couples is to help them to work the relationship problem, not the other person.   I support couples’ collaboration to better understand each other’s experience and address their common relationship challenges from a place of teamwork, support and empathy.

Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT)

I have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), which is an evidence-based framework, proven by research to help couples de-escalate conflict, grow intimacy, and meaningfully reconnect.  It helps couples identify and support each other’s most important relationship needs in a way that honors each partner’s individual life experiences and the collective needs of the couple.  Because it is so effective, I often incorporate aspects of EFT in my work with couples.

I am also trained in a number of other evidence-based approaches to support couples including:

– Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy for Couples
– Gottman Method
– Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy (PACT)
– Internal Family Systems (IFS)

I draw from these and other frameworks to make sure the approach we take best suits the needs and personalities of my clients.
